About Us
When sport kiting spread to the UK and Europe from the USA in the early
1980's, a group of British kite flyers formed a committee to help promote
it. This committee was known as STACK, Sport Team And Competitive Kiting.
Today STACK is a worldwide organisation with over 600 members. If you are interested in joining STACK UK, then download and complete the form here.
What does STACK do?
STACK's mission is to promote, organise, oversee and regulate the sport of kite flying. These activites are coordinated in each member country by a National Director. In order to standardise and update competition rules and organisation, to comply with safety procedures and to co-ordinate major events, there is an 'umbrella' committee known as the STACK International Executive Committee (SIEC) plus 'officers' in charge of various tasks such as newsletter, fund raising, membership etc.
Who is involved?
STACK UK is run by a team of volunteers. There is a significant workload in running STACK UK and we are fortunate to have officers who take the role of coordinating activities such as the event calendar, competition results and membership. These are our 'unsung heroes' and we are always very grateful to them.
The core STACK UK competitions and services have been stable for some years now and we are looking for ways to broaden the appeal of STACK to existing Sport Kite flyers and Sport Kiting to the general public. This includes offering competition formats for Trick/Freestyle flying; developing more effective ways to run competitions in conjunction with, and outside of, kite festivals; and finding ways to attrach casual flyers into Sport Kiting.STACK UK has to move with the times and constantly evolve to remain an attractive opportunity for those who enjoy flying sport kites.
